Every brand has a starting point. For Essentia Natura, it was a long-held ambition, more than 30 years of industry experience and a chance conversation over dinner.
Our founder had always wanted to create a range of high-quality supplements. Having worked in the industry for over three decades, including in retail since 2012, the desire to develop something of their own had been building for years.
Then, a meeting with an associate’s friend presented an unexpected opportunity to explore that possibility.
As our founder explains:
“I've been in the industry for over 30 years and in retail since 2012 and have always wanted to create a range of high quality supplements. Hence when the opportunity presented itself during this meeting, I was very keen to explore the possibility.”
That conversation became the beginning of Essentia Natura.
Why We Chose to Develop Liquid Collagen Supplements
When the idea began to take shape, collagen supplements were already available in many forms. But our founder saw an opportunity within the liquid collagen category.
From their perspective, relatively few liquid formulations combined the format they wanted with collagen ingredients supported by scientific research.
This observation shaped the development brief: create a liquid collagen range with careful consideration of the collagen itself, the accompanying nutrients and the reasoning behind each ingredient.
The ambition was to bring together industry experience and a thoughtful approach to formulation in products with a clear purpose.
Two Products, Two Distinct Formulation Briefs
From the outset, we wanted to develop two different products: one for the beauty market and another for people interested in joint care and active lifestyles.
Those priorities became the starting points for Collagen Brilliance® and Collagen Resilience®.
Collagen Brilliance®: Our Beauty-Focused Formula
Collagen Brilliance® liquid collagen brings together marine collagen, hyaluronic acid and a selection of vitamins.
Its ingredient list includes fish-derived Peptan® collagen, vitamin C and B vitamins, including riboflavin and biotin.
This reflects the original beauty-focused brief: consider the complete formulation, from the collagen source to the nutrients included alongside it.
Collagen Resilience®: Developed with Active Living in Mind
Collagen Resilience® liquid supplement grew from our second brief, centred on the joint-care and active-lifestyle market.
Its formulation combines collagen with glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin, alongside vitamins C, B6, B12 and D3.
Creating two distinct formulas allowed us to approach each brief individually and give careful thought to the accompanying ingredients.
Why the Whole Formula Matters
Collagen was central to the concept, but it was never the only consideration.
During development, we looked closely at the other nutrients included in each product and the forms in which they were supplied. Bioavailability—how readily the body can absorb and use a substance—was one of the considerations guiding ingredient selection.
The intention was to give each ingredient a clear reason for being there.

Sourcing Was Part of the Original Thinking
The source of the collagen and the way it was processed were important parts of the development process.
Our original sourcing considerations included upcycled collagen derived from wild-caught fish or grass-fed cattle. Upcycling makes use of materials that might otherwise be underused, and this was part of the thinking behind ingredient selection.
We also considered hydrolysed collagen: collagen broken down into smaller fragments known as peptides.
For us, evaluating collagen meant looking beyond the ingredient name to consider its origin, processing and supporting documentation.
The Role of Research in Development
The clinical data associated with the selected collagen ingredients helped inform the formulation process.
We wanted to consider the available ingredient research alongside the amount included in each product and the other nutrients in the formula.
Research on an individual ingredient and testing of a finished supplement are different things. Ingredient studies can inform development, but they do not automatically establish the results of a complete formulation.
That distinction is part of communicating clearly about how our products were developed.
A Considered Approach to Sugar, Additives and Shelf Life
Our formulation philosophy began with a straightforward aim: avoid sugar and minimise unnecessary additives while achieving a suitable shelf life.
We also wanted to consider dietary requirements, including gluten avoidance, during development.
Creating a liquid supplement means balancing these priorities with practical considerations such as flavour, preservation and storage. Each of those decisions contributes to the finished product.
The individual product labels should always be checked for ingredients and allergens. Brilliance®, for example, contains fish-derived collagen.
From a Long-Held Ambition to Essentia Natura
Essentia Natura began with the desire to create high-quality supplements, informed by decades of industry experience.
A chance dinner conversation provided the opportunity to take that ambition further. From there, the idea developed into two distinct formulation briefs, with attention to collagen sourcing, accompanying nutrients and the research available during development.
